Licorice Root [the main ingredient of Liven Up tea] is the root of Glycyrrhiza glabra from which a slightly sweetened flavour can be obtained. The liquorice plant is a legume that is indigenous to southern Europe and remote parts of Asia. It is not botanically interrelated to star anise or fennel, which are foundations for similar sweet flavouring compounds. Glycyrrhizin has also demonstrated antiviral, antimicrobial, hepatoprotective and blood-pressure increasing effects. Liquorice Root found in Liven Up tea may be useful as anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory and expectorant.
Yerba mate was first used and farmed by the Guaraní people and in some Tupí societies in the southern areas of Brazil prior to Europeans arriving. It adds a natural stimulant effect to Liven Up tea.
